Friday: Clean-up, archeological digging, rehearsals and finishing eco-villages

Image
Most of Friday morning was reserved for CLEAN-UP: We wanted everything to look nice for the parents´ arrival.    Then, Garci had a surprise for us: giant dinosaur bones had been discovered in the front garden of the school. The scientists had to work together to dig them out and reconstitute the tyrannosaurus.  Then the Eco-villages were put on display, and the lab directors were very proud of the young scientists! Jillian´s Joules: The Jerry Neutrons:  The Avatars:     And last but not least, and very impressive work:  Manu´s Megas!  In the afternoon we spent a lot of time on rehearsals and at the pool to take a break from the heat.

Thursday´s topic was solar energy - an obvious idea with 36º temperatures!

Image
The scientists-in-training had to construct solar ovens out of cardboard and foil and fold them in specific ways, which was more difficult than it seemed. Some scientists still managed to cook delicious mini-pizzas or smores with only solar energy! Great job!  mini pizzas delicious smores! a reversible solar oven! more smores on a solar grill

Work on the Eco-villages is progressing!

Here are some photos of the work students are doing planning and designing their eco-villages.

Wednesday, July 14th (Bastille Day): Structures

Image
Today, the topic was structures. The different research teams had to build dome structures big enough for them to sit inside and successfully completed this task, although it was not easy! See these pictures to judge for yourself!    One more way to use this structure: as a safe space  During sports hour, Jillian praised the archery skills of her students. Here are some shots of that: Here are some pictures from last week´s Mixed Martial Arts workshop that we hadn´t posted then:   Finally, Garci helped the young scientists design a really cool video game consisting of a vaccine needle killing Covid viruses! It´s a great way of contextualizing video game design.  Alas, Rosi had to communicate with the scientists´ parents today given the fact that Villafranca will be confined (on lock-down) beginning today at midnight. We had to make some changes to our final party, but not the final performance: The show must go on!!!
